FAQs
GENERAL.
What is Now and Then?
Now and Then is a medium-paced, panfandom RP game set in a fantasy world, with heavy emphasis on investigation and character relations. The game’s plot is heavily character driven and will shape depending on how the player base interacts with the world. Events are planned for each month, and have their outcomes- positive or negative- tailored to the individuals.
The plot of Now and Then is meant for characters to work together and investigate the dying world of Lyroa- specifically, the four cities that border one another in midst of the chaos. Doing so probably holds the secrets to returning home. Or, maybe something more, if your character so wishes. The game will be heavily character driven, and the world will be influenced by cooperation between them.

Will there be NPCs? How much will they influence the game?
Eventually, it's possible. It depends on how the characters end up interacting with the world, but it's likely they won't show up for a while.
As for their influence, for when they appear, that also depends on how much our player base chooses to interact with them. However, with our quests and events, we will be aiming to encourage players to interact with each other versus interacting with NPCs. We plan for them to only be plot devices and interacting with them will very rarely, if ever, be necessary.

How long is this game going to last?
At the time, there’s no specific date for the game to end. The plot itself is progressed by the players, and even end game is going to be dictated on how everyone interacts with the world. Because of this, it’s hard to plan around trying to end at a certain point. Currently, though, the amount of content planned for the game should keep it going for about a year.
What kind of content will be allowed?
This game is meant to focus on the exploration, mystery, and player teamwork aspects of things. This game is going to have a player age restriction of 16, as there will be some touchy topics, but nothing overly so. For this reason, we ask that anything smut-related happen in private communities or on character journals. Anything else NSFW (like gore) will be allowed in the community so long as cuts and warnings are used appropriately in these situations.
What is the IC to OOC day ratio?
It will be 1:1 in terms of IC/OOC day ratios.
IC.
Is there a network?
Yes! Each character will be receiving a PDA in their new homes when they arrive, which is discussed further below. However, the PDAs will mysteriously malfunction if attempted to use outside of any of the four cities. Within the cities, the PDAs function normally, and even update occasionally with notifications that the quest board has been updated. These updates don't trace back to any specific person, however.
You mentioned four cities. What are they and where does my character "live" amongst them?
There are four major cities in Lyroa: Viasna, Leto, Vosen, and Zima. These cities do border one another, but despite this they all have drastically varying weather patterns. Your characters, on arrival, will be inexplicably drawn to one of the four cities and their rooms. Which city that is will be based on their birthday. If your character does not have a canonical birthday, you are free to make one up with a reasonably amount of thought put into it.
Viasna: March 1 to May 31
Leto: June 1 to August 31
Vosen: September 1 to November 30
Zima: December 1 to February 28/29
The characters will have their rooms set up for them, with a certain number of randomized (at the mods' discretion) roommates with the most comfortable bed for them, a small supply of some of their favorite food, a new PDA with their name labelled on it, and the item(s) that you put on your application, clearly all trying to convince them to stay there. Your character is welcome to move homes if they so choose, but if they try to move cities, they'll find themselves getting gradually sicker after a handful of days being outside "their" city. Be this physically, mentally, or otherwise is up to you.
For more in depth descriptions of the individual cities, be sure to check out our Locations page.

Does my character get any special ability from being in their city?
Not immediately, though upon completing quests and events will open the door for rewards that will occasionally include "special ability".
Is there any way my character can live in another city without being sick?
Yes, but not immediately. It will take a lot of cooperation with the residents of that city, but it is eventually possible.
Can my character keep their canon powers?
In most cases, yes! We don’t want to nerf anyone’s powers if we can avoid doing so. There may be a couple of very specific powers we have to discuss with you (e.g. any timeline or space hopping powers), but overall there won’t be too much you have to worry about. That said, please be respectful to your fellow players when it comes to powers that may affect them as well.
Can my character keep their pets?
They’ll be able to bring one of their pets in exchange for an item on your inventory when filling out your application.
Can my character do X thing?
Anything you want to do in this world is absolutely something you’re allowed to do! We will have a player plot page if you want to do something that will affect the cities/the world/multiple players.
Can my character cause damage/destruction/be a general terrible person?
Of course! Please bear in mind that your character’s actions will have consequences, though.
Is death permanent? What happens when my character dies?
It is not! When your character dies, they will turn into a statue briefly. After two days, the statue will shatter, and they will find themselves waking up in the church they first arrived in, totally safe with absolutely nothing wrong with them! :)
Just kidding. When they awake in the church, they will retain mild scars adjacent to whatever may have happened to them while they were a statue (so, a scar across your arm if someone recklessly decided to break yours off, for example). If they die more than once, consequences will start to kick in, tailored specifically for your character.

My character has medicine/special diet needs. How would I go about this in game?
There will be quest rewards in the game with remedies and other things your character might want/need depending on the situation, even if it's something specific from your character's world.
What does this world look like? Is it Earth?
This world is technically the Earth of this universe, yes, with it's own urban fantasy twist. The wildlife is only slightly different, and, of course, the monsters and weird space rifts that pop up occasionally.
What places outside of the cities can my character explore?
Just outside the cities, you'll find a few places to visit. A brief summary of each are going to be listed below, while our Settings page has more in depth descriptions. They can continue to explore these places for as long as they like, but keep in mind that being outside their city for too long will make them feel incredibly ill. The further they get, the more rapidly they sicken.
Outside Viasna, under a steep cliff, lies the Twisted Gardens. It's less a garden and more a plain, but the plethora of wildflowers that grow there earned it the name. The "twisted" part, unsurprisingly, comes from the corruption of said wildflowers.
Outside Leto lies the Deserted Mines. It can be assumed that before things went south for Lyroa, it was, in fact, a massive mining colony. Now, however, it is, quite literally, a desert, filled occasionally with old mine shafts, but ultimately just... sand.
Outside Vosen lies the Haunting Forest. It's a thick, dense forest that is extremely disorienting upon entering. Not to mention, any maps found of the place just seem to be incorrect...
Outside Zima lies the Frozen Ocean. It is (surprise!) an ocean, but mostly frozen over for a majority of the year. Oddly enough, when winter rolls around, it seems to be the only time of the year the ice dissipates.

How do I explore these environments?
If your character intends on entering any environment, we encourage you to contact us about it to inform you of what they’ll find out there. We have a general description of each over on our Settings page, but entering it will always vary from person to person and time to time, as the world is unpredictable and things suddenly change all the time in the world. You are, of course, allowed to let us know if your character has a certain goal in mind, or even if you just want to run an idea you had by us!
What about the language barrier?
There isn’t one! Oddly enough, when you arrived in the church, something seems to have connected all the characters and natives of the world. Though your characters will be speaking their native languages, they will all be able to understand one another. Any effort to speak another language other than your character's native one will not be automatically understood, however.
Does this town have currency?
Not for the player characters. Items and such will be obtained for the characters through doing quests, even when NPCs eventually exist.
OOC.
What kind of events and quests can we expect?
We do not have a explicit theme for our quests and events, as the world we made has given us free reign to do whatever sounds the most fun, for lack of a more professional way of saying things. We're open to any ideas our player base would have, but we want to alternate monthly between plot/character bonding intensive events and calmer ones as sort of a "break month". This will help the characters calm down IC-ly, but also lets us open our bi-monthly applications on the "calm months" to integrate the new characters before throwing a big event at them.
What sort of characters do you accept?
Any canon characters or OCs! CRAU, Canon OCs, and non-canon AUs will not be accepted. We will also not accept variants of the same character within a canon in a game. For example, if we already have a Lumine Traveler (Genshin Impact), we won't accept either an Aether Traveler or an Abyss Princess Lumine, but we will accept Abyss Prince Aether.
How many characters can I app?
You can only app one character per app round, but you are allowed to app up to three characters total.
What’s the cast cap/game cap?
The game’s current cap will be displayed on our Application page. Starting out, however, the game’s cap will be 40, and the cast cap will be 5. This is subject to change depending on how fast the game picks up traction. Keep in mind that the game cap will not be affected by muns playing multiple characters.
What’s the Activity Check like in this game?
Activity Check is going to remain open for the entirety of the month, so you’re welcome to submit it whenever. AC is going to be 15 comments in a minimum of two threads and a maximum of six threads. If you submit a post or top-level, we ask for one additional thread outside of the post adding up to six comments from you.
As this game is capped, and we intend to keep it medium-paced for our player base, we will not have a strike system. If you wish to reapply to the game after being removed for AC reasons, you must wait a month before doing so.
In order to submit a hiatus, it must span a total of at least fourteen days in order to be counted. Hiatuses will not be accepted if you used a hiatus the previous month, and cannot span longer than a month. If you require longer than that, please contact us directly.
How will my Hiatus be handled ICly?
You’re welcome to have your character on auto-pilot if you wish, or have them turned into a statue. Whichever you'd like!
I have this idea for--
Say no more. We would love to hear whatever ideas you have for us. Feel free to contact us on our Mod Contact page, or by PM-ing us directly.
